How do I find and start a car?

Cars aren't bought or crafted — they stand abandoned at parking lots and abandoned gas stations. Cars you find are already damaged. To get one running you need two parts and fuel.

Car Battery. Research it at the workbench, then craft it.

Engine. Can't be crafted. Look under the hoods of wrecked cars along the roads.

Installing. Open the Hood, put both parts into their slots and press Install. Once installed, a part stays in the car for good. A part you've put in but not yet installed can still be taken back out.

Fuel. Fuel Bottles go into the car's own fuel tank. A car you find usually has little or no fuel. Coasting doesn't burn fuel.

If the car won't move, the message tells you why: "Not enough fuel" or "The vehicle is missing parts".

Repairs. Once both parts are installed, the Hood screen has a repair button that restores the car to full health for Metal Fragments and Scrap.

Seats. Some cars are single-seaters, others carry a whole team. Passengers can shoot while riding; the driver can't.

The boot. Some cars have a 25-slot boot. It has no lock — anyone who walks up can open it. Treat it as temporary space, not a safe.

Nobody owns a car. Anyone can get in and drive off, so park where you can see it, or expect to find it gone.
